CCMC hosts review meeting to ensure city is prepared for upcoming monsoons

As per predictions, our city will receive spells of rain this season as a part of North-east monsoons. In order to ensure that we are well prepared with men and materiel Corporation Commissioner Dr. K. Vijayakarthikeyan chaired a review meeting this morning. This meeting was hosted at conference room in the Corporation office premises on the preparations that have been undertaken for monsoon season.



Speaking on the occasion Corporation Commissioner said “As north east monsoon is expected, the corporation has taken many precautionary steps. During the rainy season the corporation workers will work with the disaster management team formed by the Coimbatore Corporation. Assistant Commissioners have been instructed to form the disaster management teams at the divisional level. The corporation officials have also been instructed to identify the areas where the water gets stagnated and they are trained to drain water. They have also been instructed to keep the public shelters, schools and rain shelters prepared for emergencies. Sand bags, tools required during the rainy season are also stocked.” Dr. K. Vijayakarthikeyan said.

The public can register their rain related grievance at 8190000200. The officials are instructed to act immediately on the complaints received over phone.

A team of CCMC staff has been trained and will be used to clean the rainwater drains, small bridges, drinking water storage tanks. Instructions also have been given to remove the mud removed from the drainages. Precautions are being taken at schools to prevent water borne diseases.

He also advised to consume drinking water only after it is boiled. Un-hygienically stored food should be avoided. Food should be kept in closed containers and hands should be washed with soap after using the toilet. Vegetables should be washed before they are used for cooking. Mud pots, plastic products, cement containers, coconut shells should be kept safe so that they do not stagnate rain water.



Shop owners should ensure proper disposal of organic waste to control the production of houseflies. The surroundings should be kept clean by avoiding open defecation. Waste from streets must be removed on a regular basis. The storage tanks in homes should be cleaned periodically.

Assistant Corporation Commissioner P. Gandhimathi, Corporation Engineer G. Rajendran, City Health Officer Maru. Santhoshkumar and all assistant commissioners, engineers, health department officials participated in this meeting.
