A 30-year old female elephant found in Thangam area on the 19th of this month. This tusker was given treatment for dehydration and fever. On the 21st this elephant was brought to Sadivayal elephant camp for further treatment and intensive care. The health condition of this elephant continued to be a cause of worry for forest officials and veterinarians.
On the 23rd of this month, to the surprise of forest officials and veterinarians, this female elephant delivered a healthy male calf. The health, biological, environmental and other ecological factors were assessed by team of forest officials, veterinarians, experts from WWF India. Officials from the forest department have released the mother and its calf into wilderness in Sadivayal area. The mother and calf are closely being monitored. The department is hopeful of their survival in the natural environment.
