Coimbatore, Nov. 25
What do you say to one who is trying to do hara-kiri in front of you? You try to talk him out of it, you advance reasons for not doing it. You tell him if he succeeds , he will not be there to savour the success. In case he fails, he has to lick his wounds for the rest of his life. You tell him to think a while, wait for better reasons to prevail and discuss his problems with someone who has gone through a similar stage in life.

But this man is intent on his act, he justifies self destruction. He says nobody knows better the pleasures of death; it ends problems, instead of finding temporary solutions. “Allow me to disappear.” he pleads. What can you say to him, how can you to argue with him?
Well, that’s how I feel when I look around. I see people, well meaning citizens of this country, rushing to do hara-kiri; I see people doing things that are deadly in their impact. I see impatient people bent on destroying the basic fabric of society, its values, I find dogmatic people with no patience or desire to seek better knowledge. Selfishness rules their minds. None seem to exercise their instinct for survival. Like the whores of Germany they are intent on their march to self destruction.

What else do you call it when people cut the branch they are sitting on? When people in charge of the country loot it? When judges go corrupt? When parents teach their offsprings it is all right to go wrong? When teachers shrug off their responsibility? When they trample on morality and values? When thieves and scoundrels occupy seats of power?

When women rid their modesty and femininity in their quest for security and luxury? When falsehood overwhelms truth? When marital relations are made subservient to money? When mothers kill children for fear of rearing them? When money dazzles even the wise? When the educated use their knowledge to deprive the uneducated of their rights?

When rights blind people of their duties? When wise men go along with injustice because it is the easier thing to do? When scholars are mocked at? When physicians work not to heal, but to amass wealth? When gods wait for men and women to realize, on their own, their follies? If this is not hara-kiri, what else?
God, let me wake up from this world of nightmare into a world of reason!
