The Government has plans of constructing a memorial in honour of former president, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. Construction work will begin on the 85th birth anniversary Dr Kalam. This memorial will be constructed at his burial site in Rameswaram. The construction of the memorial will begin tomorrow (October 15). Central government initiated various efforts through Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), to build a memorial, an exhibition on life of Abdul Kalam and Knowledge Centre.
Tomorrow October 15, Saturday a Bhoomi Pooja for an estimated cost of Rs.15-crores will be performed at this site. The site was inspected by a team of experts under the leadership of Srinivasalu a Civil Engineer from DRDO.
Jaganathan, contractor for the project said that “Construction of Abdul Kalam memorial will begin as per schedule. The project will be completed before 10th of July 2017. The central government is planning to open the memorial before the second memorial day of Abdul Kalam. Several other programmes will also be organized on this day. The work on knowledge and exhibition centre will start in the second phase.” Jaganathan said.
