Woman, lover held on charges of robbery

A 22-year-old woman and her boyfriend were arrested on Saturday for stealing 36 sovereigns of gold from a house in Jothi Nagar in Podanur on March 17. Police said the woman had hatched a plan with her lover and entered the house belonging to an elderly woman and took away gold ornaments and 12,000 in cash. Her lover gagged the elderly woman to stop her from raising an alarm.

The arrested were identified as V Devika, 22, of Podanur and I Samayathulla Javed, 22, from Jothi Nagar in Podanur.

The due entered the house and stolen 36 sovereigns of gold ornaments and Rs 12,000 in cash from the house. JJaved had pledged a few sovereigns of gold ornaments and bought a new mobile phone.
