TNAU Celebrates the 77 th Independence Day

Dr. V. Geethalakshmi, Vice-Chancellor, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) unfurled the national flag and delivered the Independence Day address.


Coimbatore: The 77 th Independence Day was celebrated in a grand manner in TNAU, Coimbatore on August 15, 2023. Dr. V. Geethalakshmi, Vice-Chancellor, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) unfurled the national flag and delivered the Independence Day address.



The Vice-Chancellor in her 77 th Independence Day address recalled the eternal memories of the martyrs, who sacrificed their lives for new lease of life. She recollected the leaders from Tamil Nadu. She also congratulated and appreciated staff and students of TNAU for their efforts in scientific publications, release of 23 new crop varieties and 10 farm technologies during this year for the benefits of farming community and making TNAU No. 5 among agricultural institutes and 2 nd among the State Agricultural Universities.

TNAU’s expertise and research in all fields of Agriculture and Horticulture particularly technologies in Biotechnology, Nanotechnology, Remote Sensing, Food Technology, Precision Farming, High Density Planting methods etc., are very much useful for breakthrough innovations viz., World’s first semio-chemical to trap cotton stem weevil, First Non-GM Herbicide Tolerant Rice, India’s first anti-diabetic rice, SOPs for drone applications in agriculture for our farmers in generating more income. She also emphasized the initiatives to empower India to reach the first position in the world economy, i.e., “Self Reliant India” by means of all, India should see further growth in all sector including agriculture.

Prizes were distributed for various events conducted as celebration of “MahakaviBharathiar and National Freedom Movement” to school and college students, NCC cadets, NSS volunteers. The University Officers, Heads of Departments, Scientists, School students and teachers and Staff of TNAU participated in the celebration.
