Chennai Devotee Dies of Asphyxiation While Climbing Velliangiri Hills in Coimbatore

A 50-year-old devotee from Chennai, Raghuram, died of asphyxiation while climbing the Velliangiri Hills in Coimbatore. Despite efforts to save him, he was declared dead ,early this morning.

Coimbatore: In a distressing incident in Coimbatore's Velliangiri Hills, Raghuram, a 50-year-old devotee from Chennai, died of asphyxiation during his pilgrimage.

Raghuram, along with 15 friends, embarked on the journey to the sacred hills located in Poondi, Coimbatore, on March 30. While climbing the fifth hill, Raghuram experienced severe shortness of breath and collapsed. The local people from the foothills swiftly came to his aid, attempting to transport him for urgent medical care.

Despite their efforts, upon arrival at the base at around 4 a.m. today, a doctor declared Raghuram had already passed away. It has been revealed that he was suffering from diabetes.

The recent spate of fatalities during the ascent of the Velliangiri Hills prompted the forest department to issue a health advisory last week. The advisory strongly recommends that individuals, especially those with pre-existing health conditions such as blood pressure, diabetes, heart diseases, respiratory issues, and those have undergone extensive COVID-19 treatment, seek medical advice before undertaking the climb.
