Popular YouTuber Savukku Shankar Assaulted in Coimbatore Central Jail Claims Lawyer

Coimbatore Police arrested Savukku Shankar for defaming police officials. He is now allegedly assaulted in custody, leading to severe injuries, claims his lawyer Gopalakrishnan.

Coimbatore: In a startling development, popular YouTuber Savukku Shankar, who was recently jailed on charges of defamation against police officials, has reportedly been assaulted while in custody. According to his lawyer, Gopalakrishnan, Shankar has sustained significant injuries including bone fractures and contusions.

Moreover, it was pointed out by the lawyer that previous claims of human rights abuses when Shankar was held at Cuddalore jail, under the supervision of the same jailor now in Coimbatore, supposedly planned this punitive action. Gopalakrishnan urged judicial inquiry into the jail conditions and for measures to prevent further human rights abuses. The lawyer expressed hope that legal actions will inhibit ongoing violations.
