Coimbatore Residents Demand Removal of TASMAC Shop Amid Altercations

Residents of Lanka Corner in Coimbatore engaged in a roadblock demanding the removal of a TASMAC shop following repeated altercations with local tipplers. Immediate action is yet to be taken.

Coimbatore: The public outcry against a TASMAC outlet in the Lanka Corner area of Coimbatore escalated into a protest as residents blocked roads demanding its immediate removal. The locals expressed frustration over constant disturbances caused by inebriated customers who frequently get into disputes with the residents.

The situation took a turn for the worse when more than ten youths, reportedly from Chennai, assaulted three individuals with liquor bottles, resulting in hospitalization of the injured at a nearby government hospital. In response to the chaos, police arrived at the scene and engaged in negotiations with the protestors, assuring them of a prompt solution and removal of the TASMAC shop.

Despite multiple grievances filed with the police and the district administration, the residents claim no effective measures have been taken to address their concerns. Moreover, the shop reportedly operates 24/7 without proper licensing, further exacerbating the issues, including disturbances and safety concerns for women in the area. The locals continue to demand immediate administrative action to resolve the ongoing issue.
