Global Demand for Chartered Accountants Rising Rapidly Across Industries, Says Former ICAI President

Around 110 newly qualified Chartered Accountants received degrees during the first-ever ICAI convocation held in Coimbatore. Former ICAI President CA G. Ramasamy highlighted the rising global demand for CAs and urged young professionals to embrace emerging technologies and evolving financial trends.

Coimbatore: A grand convocation ceremony for newly qualified Chartered Accountants was held in Coimbatore as part of the nationwide convocation celebrations organised by The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India for candidates who successfully cleared the Chartered Accountancy examinations.

The event marked a significant milestone for Coimbatore, as the city hosted the ICAI convocation ceremony for the first time. Around 110 newly qualified Chartered Accountants from the region received their membership certificates and convocation degrees during the ceremony. Across India, nearly 10,930 candidates successfully cleared the CA examinations this year.

Former President of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, CA G. Ramasamy, who attended as the Chief Guest, presented certificates to the successful candidates and highlighted the growing global demand for Chartered Accountants across diverse industries.

Welcoming the gathering, Survajith S. Krishnan, Chairman of Coimbatore ICAI, said the Chartered Accountancy profession continues to witness strong demand due to its rigorous academic structure and industry-oriented practical training through Articleship. He noted that campus placements and career opportunities for newly qualified CAs are steadily increasing across sectors.

Addressing the graduates, CA G. Ramasamy described the occasion as more than a celebration of academic success, calling it a recognition of years of discipline, perseverance and professional transformation.

He stated that the CA qualification represents not only technical excellence, but also integrity, accountability and the ability to uphold public trust in a rapidly evolving financial ecosystem.

Highlighting the remarkable growth of ICAI, he noted that the institution, established on July 1, 1949 with just 1,700 members and 259 students, has today evolved into the world’s second-largest accounting body with nearly 4.1 lakh members and over 10 lakh students pursuing the CA course nationwide.

Speaking on the future of the profession, he said emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, machine learning, blockchain, robotic process automation, cloud computing and advanced analytics are redefining the accounting and auditing landscape. Rather than viewing technological disruption as a challenge, he urged young professionals to embrace innovation and position themselves for high-value advisory and strategic leadership roles.

He also stressed the importance of continuous learning in areas such as international taxation reforms, BEPS regulations, digital taxation and transfer pricing, stating that adaptability and upskilling would define the next generation of finance professionals.

The event was attended by Regional Council Members Rajesh and A. V. Arun, along with senior professionals, faculty members, parents and distinguished guests from the accounting fraternity.
