TNAU Hosts Two-Day Training on DNA Fingerprinting

A two-day training on DNA Fingerprinting was held on 8th and 9th May 2024 at TNAU, Coimbatore. Seventeen participants from Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra attended.


Coimbatore: A comprehensive two-day workshop focusing on the "Basics of DNA Fingerprinting" was successfully conducted on 8th and 9th May 2024 at the Department of Plant Biotechnology, Centre for Plant Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU).



This event attracted a diverse group of 17 participants including M.Sc and Ph.D students from prestigious institutions such as Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Annamalai University, Marathwada Agricultural University, Sastra University, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru College of Agriculture & Research Institute, Karaikal, Bannariamman Institute of Technology, and the Institute of Forest Genetics and Tree Breeding.



The programme was inaugurated by Dr. N. Senthil, Director of CPMB&B. Welcoming remarks were made by Dr. E. Kokiladevi, the head of the Department of Plant Biotechnology. A special address followed from Dr. R. Ravikesavan, Director of CPBG.



Post the ceremonial start, a series of expert lectures enlightened participants about the molecular markers and their use in DNA fingerprinting, enhancing their understanding significantly.

Practical sessions provided hands-on training in DNA extraction, PCR techniques used in hybrid identification, and fingerprinting of plant varieties. Additionally, the attendees received training on NTSys software, which is used for analyzing genetic diversity.
