Coimbatore Forest Department Refilling Water Bodies to Quench Wildlife Thirst

In response to severe summer heat, Coimbatore Forest Department, with volunteer support, filled water bodies in forest areas on May 10 to prevent wildlife from entering residential zones.

Coimbatore: Over the past two months, Coimbatore has experienced severe heat waves, causing distress among residents eagerly anticipating rainfall. Thankfully, the last two days saw showers in Coimbatore and its surrounding regions, particularly in areas under the control of the Madukkarai forest section.

Despite the rains, water bodies within the forest areas had dried up due to the persistent heat, escalating the risk of wildlife straying into residential areas in search of water. On May 10, with the help of volunteers, the Forest Department undertook the task of transporting water by trucks to replenish the constructed water troughs in these forests.

This initiative has not only assuaged the thirst of the local wildlife but also mitigated the danger of animals wandering into human habitation. If the occasional summer rains continue, it is expected that the water levels in forest ponds will improve, further easing the situation.
