Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary Sivadas Meena Reviews Bhavani Dam Amid Drought Concerns

Chief Secretary of Tamil Nadu, Sivadas Meena inspected Bhavani Dam in Coimbatore, addressing ongoing drought issues and urges speed in desilting tasks to alleviate water scarcity affecting Coimbatore and Tirupur districts.

Coimbatore: Bhavani Dam, located in Mettupalayam, plays a crucial role in quenching the thirst of the people in Coimbatore as well as Tirupur district. The dam, reliant on the rainfall in The Nilgiris, is currently facing severe drought conditions, with water levels significantly lower than normal. In this context, Tamil Nadu's Chief Secretary Sivadas Meena personally visited the dam on May 10 to conduct an inspection. During his visit, he reviewed the dam's water levels, storage capacity, and discharge management. Additionally, he instructed officials to expedite the desilting process.

Accompanying him were key district officials including Coimbatore District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati, Municipal Commissioner M. Sivakuru Prabhakaran, Revenue Officer M. Sharmila, District Forest Officer Jayaraj, among others from various departments relevant to the project.
