YouTuber Savukku Shankar Arrested Under Goondas Act by Chennai Police

Savukku Shankar, a prominent YouTuber, was arrested by the Coimbatore Cyber Crime Police following comments defamatory towards police officials in an interview. He is currently detained under the Goondas Act.



Coimbatore: In a significant move by the Chennai Metropolitan Police, Savukku Shankar, formally known as Shankar and resident of Maduravoyal, Chennai, has been charged and detained under the stringent provisions of the Goondas Act. The action was taken following an official complaint from a CMDA officer concerning alleged cyber crimes. 

The Chennai Police Commissioner, Sandeep Roy Rathore, ordered the detention after reviewing the charges against Shankar, which include multiple criminal cases logged at the Cyber Crime Division of Central Crime Branch. Shankar, detained at the Coimbatore Central Jail, was served the formal Goondas Act detention order today, ensuring his stay in custody for the foreseeable future as investigations continue into several other pending cases. 

Shankar faces charges in a total of seven cases, three of which are under investigation, and two have already seen charge sheets filed, with the remaining two still under judicial review.
