Coimbatore: The Kovai Kulangal Padhugappu Amaippu (Coimbatore Lakes Protection Association) conducted a field work session in Pillayarpuram, which falls under the Madukkarai forest range, on July 21, 2024. The primary focus of the event was to maintain the tree saplings that were previously planted in the area.

Volunteers from Coimbatore and members of the Kovai Kulangal Padhugappu Amaippu actively participated in the field work. Their efforts were directed towards ensuring the healthy growth of the saplings, which play a crucial role in maintaining the ecological balance of the region.

The field work involved various activities such as watering the saplings, removing weeds, and adding necessary nutrients to the soil. The participants also checked for any signs of disease or pest infestation in the young trees, taking appropriate measures to protect them.

This initiative is part of the ongoing efforts by the Kovai Kulangal Padhugappu Amaippu to preserve and protect the water bodies in and around Coimbatore. By focusing on afforestation activities, the organization aims to improve groundwater recharge and prevent soil erosion in the vicinity of lakes and ponds.

The Madukkarai forest range, where Pillayarpuram is located, is an important ecological zone in the region. The tree planting and maintenance activities in this area contribute to the larger goal of enhancing the green cover and biodiversity of Coimbatore district.

The Kovai Kulangal Padhugappu Amaippu has been consistently organizing such events to raise awareness about environmental conservation and encourage community participation in protecting natural resources. The success of this field work session demonstrates the growing environmental consciousness among Coimbatore's residents and their willingness to contribute to conservation efforts.
