Mother arrested for beating daughter to death in Coimbatore

A 10-year-old girl in Coimbatore died due to severe injuries inflicted by her mother. The incident came to light after a post-mortem report revealed 33 wounds on the child's body.

Coimbatore: In a shocking incident, a mother was arrested for allegedly beating her 10-year-old daughter to death in Coimbatore. The arrest came after a post-mortem report revealed multiple injuries on the child's body.

Dakshinamoorthy (39), a private company employee, and his wife Santhalakshmi resided in Meyyappan Nagar, Telugu Palayam, Coimbatore, with their son and daughter. Their daughter, Anusree (10), was a 5th-grade student who had been suffering from urinary tract infection for the past four months and was receiving treatment at a Siddha medical center in Marudamalai.

On May 17, Santhalakshmi rushed Anusree to a nearby private hospital, claiming the child had fallen from the bed while sleeping and lost consciousness. The doctors there advised them to take the girl to Coimbatore Government Hospital. However, upon examination at the government hospital, doctors declared that Anusree was already dead.

The Selvapuram police registered a case and sent the body for post-mortem. After a few days, the police received the post-mortem report, which revealed 33 wounds on the child's body. This led to an intense investigation, during which several disturbing facts came to light.

It was discovered that Santhalakshmi had been extremely strict with Anusree and frequently beat her with a ladle. The repeated beatings caused severe injuries, leading to blood loss that affected the child's kidneys, ultimately resulting in her death.

Following these revelations, the police arrested Santhalakshmi on July 26. She has been booked under the section of the law dealing with culpable homicide not amounting to murder. The accused was produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody.

The incident of a mother beating her own daughter to death has sent shockwaves through Coimbatore, raising concerns about child abuse and parental discipline.
