Tamil Nadu Merchants' Federation Demands Action Against Murders and Robberies of Traders

The Tamil Nadu Merchants' Federation warns of statewide protests if the government fails to address the increasing murders and robberies targeting traders. The federation's state general secretary highlighted concerns in Coimbatore.

Coimbatore: The Tamil Nadu Merchants' Federation has raised alarm over the increasing incidents of murders and robberies targeting traders across the state. The federation's state general secretary, Soundararajan, warned of statewide protests if the Tamil Nadu government fails to take swift action to address these issues.

The concerns were voiced during a meeting of the Tamil Nadu Merchants' Federation's executives held in the Tudiyalur area of Coimbatore. Soundararajan, along with coordinator Diamond Raja Vellaian, addressed the media after the event.

Soundararajan stated, "Over the past few months, there has been a significant increase in rowdy activities across Tamil Nadu. Specifically, a trader was murdered in Tirupattur just two days ago. The police must take appropriate action as the killing of traders has escalated throughout Tamil Nadu."

The federation also raised concerns about the alleged harassment of traders by GST officials. They urged the state government to take notice and intervene in this matter. Additionally, they called for a review of the recently increased electricity tariffs, requesting the government to consider reducing them.

Addressing the rising incidents of shop robberies, Soundararajan suggested a potential solution. "To curb the increasing robberies in shops, we propose that the Aadhaar data of workers from other states employed in Tamil Nadu should be shared with the Tamil Nadu Police," he said. The federation emphasized the need for cooperation between the central and state governments to implement this measure.

The federation has given an ultimatum to the Tamil Nadu government, stating that if these issues are not addressed promptly, they will be forced to organize protests across the state on behalf of all merchant associations.
