Five arrested for kidnapping and assaulting sanitation worker in Coimbatore

A group of five men kidnapped and brutally attacked a 23-year-old sanitation worker in Coimbatore on July 27. The incident, stemming from previous enmity, led to swift police action and arrests.


Coimbatore: In a shocking incident, five men were arrested for kidnapping and assaulting a sanitation worker in Coimbatore. The victim, identified as Dharaneedharan (23), a Corporation sanitation worker from Kamarajar Nagar in Ramanathapuram, Coimbatore, was standing on Olympus 80 Feet Road on July 27 when the incident occurred.

A group of five intoxicated men arrived in an auto-rickshaw and picked up an argument with Dharaneedharan. They then forcibly took him in their vehicle and drove towards Chettipalayam. At a secluded location, they stopped the auto-rickshaw and brutally attacked Dharaneedharan with wooden logs.

After the assault, the perpetrators dropped Dharaneedharan near his house and fled the scene. Passersby, noticing the injured victim writhing in pain, rescued him and sent him to the Coimbatore Government Hospital for treatment.

A complaint was lodged at the Ramanathapuram Police Station. Subsequent investigation revealed that the attack was a result of previous enmity between the parties involved.

Acting swiftly, the police arrested five individuals in connection with the incident. The arrested were identified as Suresh Kumar (29) from South Ukkadam, Anwar (20) and Mookkan (21) from Malumichampatti, Suman (21) from Ambedkar Nagar in Chettipalayam, and Ranjith (23) from Pullukkadu.
