Husband Protests with Ailing Wife for Advanced Medical Care and Job Transfer in Tirupur

A man in Tirupur staged a protest by laying his critically ill wife in front of the District Collector's office, demanding advanced medical treatment and job transfer for his temporary health worker spouse.

Tirupur: In a dramatic turn of events, a man named Cholan from Devampalayam near Avinashi in Tirupur district created a stir by staging a protest with his ailing wife in front of the District Collector's office. The protest was to demand advanced medical treatment for his wife, Jothilakshmi, who suffered a brain hemorrhage in a recent accident.

Jothilakshmi, a differently-abled person, has been working as a temporary staff at the Primary Health Center in Kaniyur, Udumalaipettai. Despite applying for a transfer, her request has remained unaddressed for the past ten years. The situation took a grave turn when she met with an accident in June, resulting in a brain hemorrhage.

Cholan, concerned about his wife's critical condition, laid her in front of the Tiruppur District Collector's office. He demanded immediate advanced medical care for Jothilakshmi, along with a plea for her job permanency and transfer. The unexpected protest caused a commotion in the area, drawing immediate attention from passersby and officials.

Responding to the situation, authorities quickly intervened and assured the protestor of prompt action. Following these assurances, Cholan withdrew his protest. Subsequently, Jothilakshmi was immediately transferred to the Tiruppur Government Hospital via ambulance for further medical attention.

This incident highlights the challenges faced by temporary workers in the health sector and the desperate measures some families resort to in seeking better healthcare and job security. The authorities' swift response to the situation also underscores the impact of such public demonstrations in drawing attention to personal grievances.
