Coimbatore SP Advises College Managements to Be Vigilant Against Ganja Use Among Students

Coimbatore SP Dr. K. Karthikeyan, IPS, urges college managements to monitor student activities and report suspicious behavior to combat drug use, following the arrest of a third-year student with 3 kg of ganja.


Coimbatore: In a bid to create a drug-free Coimbatore, District Superintendent of Police Dr. K. Karthikeyan, IPS, has intensified efforts to eradicate substance abuse among school and college students. This initiative aims to eliminate the scourge of narcotics that plagues society.

As part of this drive, on August 28, 2024, the Thudiyalur police conducted a raid and arrested Rahul (20), a third-year student from a private college in Madukkarai. Rahul, son of Anbalazhagan from Cuddalore district, was found in possession of 3 kg of ganja, which was subsequently seized by the police.

In light of this incident, SP Dr. K. Karthikeyan has issued advisory to college managements across Coimbatore district. He emphasized the need for vigilance, particularly in monitoring the activities of students residing in college hostels or other accommodations. The SP urged college authorities to focus on ensuring students concentrate on their studies and stay away from drugs.

Dr. Karthikeyan specifically instructed college managements to keep a close watch on student behavior and promptly report any suspicious activities to the police. This proactive approach is aimed at preventing the spread of drug use among the student community and maintaining a healthy academic environment in Coimbatore's educational institutions.
