16 vehicles detained by transport department

Transport department officials detained 16 vehicles for not meeting the requirements in the two days special checking conducted in Coimbatore Zone recently.

According to a press release, department officials conducted checking in various areas inside the Coimbatore zone on March 30 and 31. During the checks, the officials collected fine amounting to Rs.4,81,700 and unpaid taxes amounting to Rs.2,26,090. They had earlier proposed a fine of Rs.3,69,600 and tax of Rs.34,690, but managed to collect the said amount in just two clays.

A total of 3586 vehicles were checked during the inspections. 16 of these vehicles were detained for failure to meet the requirements.

One of the drivers was also fined for using mobile phone while driving.
