Coconut Trader Accuses Coimbatore District Crime Branch DSP of Extortion

A coconut trader from Kangeyam, Tirupur district, filed a complaint at the Western Range DIG office in Coimbatore, alleging extortion by the District Crime Branch DSP and false cases against him.

Coimbatore: A coconut trader from Kangeyam, Tirupur district, has leveled serious allegations against the Coimbatore District Crime Branch (DCB) Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), accusing him of involvement in extortion and filing false cases.

The trader, identified as Prakash, made these claims while speaking to reporters after filing a complaint at the Western Range DIG office in Coimbatore.

Prakash stated that he had been in the copra and coconut trading business for many years with two individuals named Kumaravel and Ravikumar. According to Prakash, Kumaravel claimed to have suffered losses in the business and disappeared without repaying the money borrowed from him. Upon investigating, Prakash discovered that both Kumaravel and Ravikumar had allegedly borrowed money from several people.

The situation took a turn when Kumaravel and Ravikumar, with the alleged support of some officials in the Coimbatore District Crime Branch, filed false complaints against Prakash. He claimed to have met the DCB DSP in person and submitted all relevant documents, but accused the DSP of delaying the process and attempting to mediate a financial settlement, which Prakash termed as extortion.

Prakash revealed that he had already filed a complaint with the Director General of Police (DGP) of Tamil Nadu regarding this matter. He was now at the Western Range DIG office to personally meet and submit a complaint to the senior official.

Expressing his distress, Prakash highlighted the increasing incidents of traders being threatened and extorted for money. He warned that if such activities were not controlled, traders like him would be left with no option but to consider suicide.

The allegations raise serious questions about the conduct of law enforcement officials and the challenges faced by traders in the region. As the complaint has been lodged with senior police officials, it remains to be seen how the authorities will address these grave accusations and ensure justice for the affected parties.
