Forest Department Intensifies Efforts to Capture Leopard Near Mettupalayam

Forest officials have stepped up efforts to capture a leopard that has been evading them for months in Vellipalayam near Mettupalayam. Surveillance cameras have been installed to track the big cat's movements.

Coimbatore: The Forest Department has intensified its efforts to capture a leopard that has been evading officials for several months in Vellipalayam, near Mettupalayam. The elusive big cat has been causing concern among local residents and wildlife officials alike.

Last month, leopard movement was spotted near the Karupparayan Temple on the Mettupalayam-Vellipalayam road, which falls under the Sirumugai Forest Range. Similarly, in March, a leopard attacked and killed a calf in an area called Sennamalai Karadu in the same Vellipalayam region.

Speaking to reporters on September 13, Sirumugai Forest officials stated that surveillance cameras have been installed at various locations in the Vellipalayam area to monitor leopard activity. Forest personnel are checking these cameras daily to see if any images of the leopard have been captured. So far, no photographs of the animal have been recorded on the cameras.

Officials assured that they would promptly capture the leopard if its presence is confirmed through camera footage. Given the potential danger, they have advised the public to avoid venturing out of their homes during early morning and night hours.

The Forest Department's efforts to track and capture the leopard are ongoing, with officials remaining vigilant to ensure the safety of both the local population and the wild animal. The situation continues to be closely monitored as the search for the elusive leopard persists in the Vellipalayam area near Mettupalayam.
