Coimbatore: District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati has announced that applications are being invited from senior Tamil scholars for financial assistance. This scheme, implemented by the Tamil Development Department of the Tamil Nadu Government, aims to support aged Tamil scholars who have rendered service to the Tamil language.

Under this scheme, distinguished Tamil scholars will receive a total assistance of Rs. 4,000, which includes a medical allowance of Rs. 3,500 and an additional allowance of Rs. 500. This financial aid will be provided throughout their lifetime. Additionally, beneficiaries will be entitled to free travel on government buses.

To be eligible for this scheme, applicants must have completed 58 years of age as of January 1, 2024, and have an annual income not exceeding Rs. 72,000. Applicants are required to submit various documents including an online income certificate from the Taluk office, details of Tamil language service rendered, two recommendation certificates from Tamil scholars, copies of Aadhaar card and family card.

It's important to note that beneficiaries of other Tamil Nadu government schemes such as the Women's Rights Amount or Social Welfare Protection Assistance are not eligible to apply for this program. The application form can be downloaded free of cost from the Tamil Development Department's website.

Completed applications should be submitted to the Office of the Deputy Director of District Tamil Development, located in Room No. 14, First Floor, Old Building, Coimbatore District Collectorate Complex, by October 31. The Collector emphasized that applications submitted directly to the Directorate of Tamil Development will not be accepted.

This initiative underscores the government's commitment to supporting and recognizing the contributions of Tamil scholars, ensuring their welfare in their senior years.
