Two-Day Skill Development Training Camp for Police Officers Begins in Coimbatore

DGP Shankar Jiwal inaugurated a two-day skill development training camp for police officers in Coimbatore on October 3, focusing on human rights issues and law enforcement practices.


Coimbatore: Director General of Police Shankar Jiwal inaugurated a two-day skill development training camp for police officers in Coimbatore on Tuesday (Oct. 3). The program, organized by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in collaboration with the city police department, is being held at a private venue in Coimbatore.

The training camp aims to address various aspects of human rights in law enforcement. Discussions will focus on complaints received by the NHRC regarding human rights violations, abuse of power, allegations of violence in police custody, and the importance of human rights considerations in daily police work. Legal explanations and case details related to these issues will also be covered.



At the inaugural event, Ajay Bhatnagar, Director General of Investigation for the NHRC, explained the need for and objectives of the skill development training camp. Following this, DGP Shankar Jiwal provided guidance to participating officers on the promotion of human rights.

Coimbatore City Police Commissioner V. Balakrishnan emphasized the importance of the training camp. The event is attended by senior police officials including Shanmuga Sundaram, DGP (General) of Tamil Nadu Police Headquarters, Senthil Kumar, IGP of Western Zone, and Saravana Sundar, DIG of Coimbatore Range. Additionally, Devajyoti Ray, Additional Director General of Karnataka State Police, and Somashekar, Director of Karnataka Prison Academy, are present along with 5 Superintendents of Police and 37 Additional Superintendents of Police from various districts.

The training sessions are being conducted by V. Kannadasan, Member of the Tamil Nadu State Human Rights Commission; Joginder Singh, Registrar of the NHRC; Bharat Lal, Secretary General of the NHRC; and Rajiv, former member of the NHRC. They are providing detailed information on human rights, related laws, and human rights cases to the participating senior police officers.

The training camp, which concludes on Wednesday (Oct. 4), is being coordinated by Vikram Hari Mohan Meena, Senior Superintendent of Police, and Dushyant Singh, Deputy Superintendent of Police, both from the NHRC.
