DMK deploys booth-level nodal system, sets up war rooms for polls

DMK has introduced a booth-level nodal monitoring system and district war rooms ahead of Tamil Nadu Assembly elections to strengthen coordination, real-time reporting and campaign strategy.

Coimbatore:

The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam has introduced a micro-level electoral monitoring system by appointing nodal functionaries for every two to three polling booths ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu.

According to party sources, these nodal functionaries will serve as a crucial link between booth-level agents and the party leadership, ensuring continuous communication and real-time reporting on campaign activities and polling preparedness.

Each Assembly constituency in Tamil Nadu typically comprises around 200 to 250 polling booths, while the Election Commission of India has established over 75,000 booths across the State. As per existing norms, each booth caters to a maximum of 1,200 voters.

While major parties like the DMK and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam already deploy booth-level agents, the introduction of nodal functionaries adds an additional layer of oversight aimed at improving coordination on polling day.

Party insiders indicated that district and constituency-level leaders often find it challenging to monitor every booth effectively. The new system is expected to bridge this gap by enabling closer supervision and faster response to on-ground developments.

The nodal functionaries will be responsible for submitting frequent updates, allowing the leadership to fine-tune strategies based on real-time feedback from individual booths. Party workers described the move as a first-of-its-kind initiative in Tamil Nadu’s electoral landscape.

In parallel, the DMK’s IT wing has directed district units to establish dedicated ‘war rooms’ to coordinate election-related activities. In a statement, TRB Rajaa, who serves as the party’s IT wing secretary, instructed functionaries to expedite the setup in consultation with district leaders.

These war rooms are expected to play a key role in data management, campaign coordination and rapid decision-making as the election approaches.
