Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam Warns To Remove Coverings On Leader Statues

Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam General Secretary K Ramakrishnan warns district administrations to remove cloth coverings from statues of late leaders across Tamil Nadu, threatening party members will remove them if officials fail to act promptly.

Coimbatore: Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam General Secretary K Ramakrishnan has issued a strong warning to district administrations regarding the cloth coverings on statues of late leaders across Tamil Nadu. In a press statement released today, he threatened that party members would personally remove the coverings if authorities fail to act immediately.

The controversy began during an all-party meeting convened by State Election Commissioner Archana Patnaik. Leaders from all political parties unanimously demanded the removal of cloth coverings that had been placed over statues of departed leaders throughout the state. Responding positively to the collective demand, State Election Commissioner Archana Patnaik announced that there was no need to cover the statues of late leaders.

However, despite this clear directive from the State Election Commissioner, statues of prominent Tamil Nadu leaders including Arignar Anna, Perunthalaivr Kamarajar, Muthamizh Arignar Kalaignar, and MGR continue to remain covered with cloth in various locations. Ramakrishnan condemned this as a disrespectful act towards these revered leaders.

The Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam General Secretary emphasized that keeping these statues covered is an insult to the legacy and memory of these great leaders who have made significant contributions to Tamil Nadu's political and social landscape. He called upon district administrations to take immediate action to remove all such coverings.

In his statement, Ramakrishnan made it clear that if the district administrations fail to remove the cloth coverings promptly, members of Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam would take it upon themselves to remove them. This ultimatum reflects the party's determination to ensure that the statues of these iconic leaders are restored to their uncovered state as directed by the State Election Commissioner.

The issue has sparked discussions about the implementation of election commission directives and the respect accorded to political leaders' memorials across the state.
