Coimbatore: In a major seizure ahead of elections, Flying Squad officials confiscated gold and diamond jewellery worth Rs 10.18 crore from a van in Kodiissia area under Singanallur constituency on April 15.

The operation was conducted by Flying Squad Officer Saminathan, along with Assistant Sub-Inspector Jilly Kristy and team, who were conducting routine vehicle checks in the area on Tuesday evening.

During the inspection, officials stopped a van passing through the area and upon examination, discovered it was carrying gold and diamond jewellery. The officials immediately detained the vehicle and began questioning the driver.

The driver identified himself as Athiveerapandiyan and stated that he was transporting the jewellery to a private firm. However, when asked to produce the necessary documentation for transporting such valuable items, he failed to provide any valid papers.
