Coimbatore: To address the surge in passenger traffic during the summer holidays, Southern Railway has announced the operation of special trains connecting Chennai and Coimbatore via Salem, Erode and Tirupur throughout May 2026.
The special service comprises overnight trains departing from MGR Chennai Central to Podanur Junction every Wednesday and Friday. Return journeys will operate as afternoon services from Podanur Junction to Chennai Central every Thursday and Sunday, providing convenient travel options for passengers during the peak summer travel season.
The special trains will feature a comprehensive range of seating and sleeping arrangements including AC 2-Tier Coaches, AC 3-Tier Coaches, Sleeper Class Coaches and General Second Class Coaches to accommodate various passenger preferences and budgets.
Trains from Chennai Central are scheduled to depart on 13, 15, 20, 22, 27 and 29 May 2026. The corresponding return services from Podanur Junction will run on 14, 17, 21, 24, 28 and 31 May 2026.
Passengers can conveniently book their tickets through online booking platforms, making travel arrangements simpler for families, students and those with urgent travel requirements.
