TN Government Revokes Appointment of CM’s Personal Astrologer as Political OSD

The Tamil Nadu government has revoked the appointment of Rickey Radhan Pandit Vettrivel as Officer on Special Duty (Political) to the Chief Minister, just a day after issuing the appointment order amid sharp criticism from the public and opposition parties.

Chennai: In a sudden administrative reversal, the Tamil Nadu Government has cancelled the appointment of Thiru Rickey Radhan Pandit Vettrivel as Officer on Special Duty (OSD - Political) to the Chief Minister following criticism from various quarters.

According to official proceedings issued by the Public Department (Establishment-IV) of the Tamil Nadu Secretariat, the earlier appointment order issued on May 12, 2026, through Office Proceedings No. 675 has now been revoked through Government Order No. 684 dated May 13, 2026.

The order stated that the appointment made to the post of “Officer on Special Duty (Political) to Chief Minister” stands cancelled with immediate effect. The revocation was reportedly issued based on a note received from the Chief Minister’s Office.

The proceedings were signed by Principal Secretary to Government Reeta Harish Thakkar.

The appointment had sparked criticism and political debate soon after the order was issued, with opposition parties and sections of the public questioning the move. The government, however, has not officially disclosed the specific reason behind revoking the appointment order within a day.
