Heavy Rain Warning: Paralikkadu Ecotourism Temporarily Closed

Paralikkadu ecotourism center under Karamadai forest range has been temporarily closed for this entire week as a precautionary measure following heavy rain warning issued by the meteorological department, announced Range Officer Joseph Stalin ensuring tourist safety amid adverse weather conditions.

Coimbatore: Paralikkadu, located near Billur dam at the foothills of the Western Ghats, is an important ecotourism center operating under the control of Karamadai forest range. This naturally scenic area is situated approximately 70 kilometers from Coimbatore Gandhipuram and 30 kilometers from Karamadai.

This ecotourism initiative, run with contributions from the Forest Department and tribal communities, has been receiving excellent response from tourists. Generally, visitors are permitted only on Saturdays, Sundays, and government holidays. Those wishing to participate in the tour must make online advance booking and pay the fees.

The main attractions of Paralikkadu ecotourism include coracle rides in Billur dam, traditional tribal cuisine, herbal baths in Athikkadavu river, nature walks in the forest area, and cultural dance performances by tribal communities. Notably, more than 10 varieties of traditional tribal dishes are served to tourists.

With the impact of summer heat increasing, people have been visiting areas with natural settings and water bodies more frequently. Following this, Karamadai Range Officer had announced that Paralikkadu ecotourism would operate daily from May 1 to May 31. Consequently, tourists from Coimbatore and surrounding districts visited in large numbers.

In this situation, following the Chennai Meteorological Department's warning of heavy rainfall in districts including Coimbatore, Tiruppur, and Nilgiris for the next few days, Karamadai Range Officer Joseph Stalin has announced that Paralikkadu ecotourism will be temporarily closed for this entire week as a precautionary measure.

Forest Department officials have stated that this decision has been taken considering tourist safety, and ecotourism activities will resume once weather conditions become favorable. It has also been announced that full refunds will be provided to those who have made advance bookings.
