60 Kg Gutka Stocked in Residential Area; Two Arrested in Tiruppur

Police personnel attached to the Veerapandi Police Station, during vehicle checks and patrol operations in the Nochipalayam area, uncovered 60 kg of banned gutka products and arrested two migrant workers for stocking and selling them illegally.

Tiruppur: As part of the ongoing anti-drug and anti-tobacco enforcement drive, police seized 60 kg of banned gutka products in Tiruppur and arrested two migrant workers allegedly involved in the illegal sale and distribution network.

Under the supervision of Tiruppur City Deputy Commissioner of Police Deepa Sathyan, police personnel attached to the Veerapandi Police Station were conducting routine vehicle checks and patrol operations in the Nochipalayam area when they received a tip-off regarding the illegal sale of gutka products at a petty shop.

Acting on the information, police conducted a search at the shop and detained Amul Kumar (23), a native of Bihar, for inquiry. During interrogation, he reportedly admitted that the banned tobacco products were being smuggled from Bengaluru and distributed locally.

Further investigation revealed that large quantities of gutka products had also been stocked in a rented line house located near the shop in a residential area predominantly occupied by migrant workers.

Police immediately raided the premises and seized around 60 kg of banned gutka products. Investigators also found the involvement of Thaneswaran (27), a native of Odisha, in the illegal trade.

Both accused were arrested, and police are continuing their investigation to identify others connected to the smuggling and distribution network operating in the region.
