Acting on a tip-off, Madukkarai Police seized 2.2 kg of ganja from a 24-year-old man in Coimbatore district. One person was arrested and remanded in judicial custody, while efforts are under way to trace another suspect linked to the case.
Coimbatore: As part of its sustained efforts to curb the menace of narcotics and build a drug-free Coimbatore, the Coimbatore District Police have seized 2.2 kilograms of ganja and arrested a suspect in connection with the case.
According to police, personnel attached to the Madukkarai Police Station were on routine patrol duty on Sunday to prevent criminal activities when they received specific information about ganja being stocked for sale near Raj Vijay Nagar.
Acting swiftly on the tip-off, the police conducted a search in the area and apprehended Senthil Kumar (24), a native of Dindigul district, who was allegedly in possession of ganja intended for sale. During the operation, officers seized approximately 2.2 kg of ganja from him.

The accused was subsequently produced before a court and remanded in judicial custody. Police said another individual believed to be involved in the case is absconding, and efforts are under way to secure his arrest.
Coimbatore District Superintendent of Police Pavan Kumar, IPS, reiterated that stringent legal action would be initiated against those involved in the sale of narcotic substances or activities that threaten public order.
The police have also urged members of the public to share information regarding drug-related offences through the Coimbatore District Police Control Room at 94981 81212 or via WhatsApp at 77081 00100, assuring that the identity of informants would be kept confidential.
