Repeat Drug Offender Detained Under Goondas Act in Coimbatore

Biju (61), a Kerala native man was arrested in an illegal ganja trafficking case by the Perur Prohibition Enforcement Wing has been detained under the Goondas Act following the recommendation of the Coimbatore District Police for repeated offences.

Coimbatore:A 61-year-old man from Kerala has been detained under the Goondas Act after being identified as a habitual drug offender in a ganja trafficking case registered by the Perur Prohibition Enforcement Wing.

The accused, Biju (61), was arrested for allegedly possessing ganja for the purpose of sale and was remanded in judicial custody.

Based on his repeated involvement in drug-related offences, Superintendent of Police Pawan Kumar, recommended his preventive detention under the Goondas Act. Acting on the recommendation, Coimbatore District Collector Pavan Kumar G. Giriyappanavar, IAS, issued orders invoking the Goondas Act, following which Biju was detained as a Drug Offender.

The Coimbatore District Police said stringent action under the Goondas Act would continue to be initiated against habitual offenders whose activities threaten public health or disturb public peace.

The police also urged the public to report information about persons involved in similar offences through “Nizhal,” the QR code-based security platform of the Coimbatore District Police, without revealing their identity. Information can also be shared through the Coimbatore District Police Control Room (94981 81212) or via WhatsApp (77081 00100).

Police assured that the identity of all informants would be kept strictly confidential.
