Coimbatore: The revered Arulmigu Sri Bannari Mariamman Temple in Sithapudur, a developing locality in Coimbatore city, witnessed a grand Oonjal Utsavam on July 31, 2026, marking the auspicious occasion of Aadi third Friday. Devotees thronged the temple premises in large numbers to participate in the special celebrations.

The Bannari Mariamman deity, revered for generations as the protective guardian of devotees' families, received special worship beginning at 5 PM with the Moolamanthra Homam. Following this sacred ritual, the temple conducted an elaborate Maha Abhishekam for the goddess, performed with traditional rituals and devotion.

The highlight of the evening, the Oonjal Utsavam, commenced at 7 PM amidst great enthusiasm and religious fervor. The beautifully decorated swing carried the goddess as devotees joyfully participated in the ritual of swinging the deity back and forth. The temple courtyard overflowed with devotees who gathered to witness and participate in this sacred ceremony, creating an atmosphere of spiritual celebration.

Following the conclusion of the Oonjal Utsavam, the temple administration distributed Annaprasadam to approximately 1000 devotees as part of their service. This gesture of feeding devotees forms an integral part of the temple's tradition during major festivals, ensuring that divine blessings reach everyone through sacred food.

Devotees from Sithapudur and surrounding neighborhoods attended the special event with their families, offering prayers and receiving the goddess's blessings. The festival created an opportunity for community gathering and collective worship, strengthening the bond between devotees and their revered deity.

The month of Aadi holds special significance in Tamil religious traditions, being considered particularly auspicious for goddess worship. Devotees believe that worshiping the goddess on Aadi third Friday brings prosperity, wealth, and overall well-being to their families. This deeply held faith draws large crowds to Mariamman temples across Tamil Nadu during this period, with the Bannari Mariamman Temple in Sithapudur being no exception to this tradition.
