Water Levels Rise in Aliyar, Parambikulam, Sholayar Dams

Water inflow has increased in Anaimalai, Pollachi, and Valparai dams due to southwest monsoon. Water Resources Department officials reported that water levels have risen to 59.65 feet in Aliyar dam, 34.1 feet in Parambikulam dam, and 100.99 feet in Sholayar dam as of August 11.


Coimbatore: Water Resources Department officials have reported increased water inflow in the major dams of Coimbatore district - Aliyar, Parambikulam, and Sholayar - due to the southwest monsoon rains.





Aliyar dam near Anaimalai has a total capacity of 120 feet. Due to rainfall in the catchment areas, the water level stands at 59.65 feet as of August 11. The inflow to the dam is 260 cubic feet per second, while 100 cubic feet per second is being discharged from the dam.





Parambikulam dam near Pollachi has a storage capacity of 72 feet. With the southwest monsoon continuing in the catchment areas, continuous water inflow has raised the water level to 34.1 feet as of August 11. The dam is receiving an inflow of 1566 cubic feet per second, while 50 cubic feet per second is being released.





Sholayar dam in Valparai has a capacity of 160 feet. Rainfall in the catchment areas has brought the water level to 100.99 feet as of August 11. The dam is receiving 1975 cubic feet per second of inflow, while 1618 cubic feet per second is being discharged, Water Resources Department officials stated.





With the southwest monsoon continuing, water levels in the dams are expected to rise further in the coming days. Farmers have expressed their happiness over the increased water storage.
