Mother and Daughter Hacked to Death over Alleged Love Dispute Near Palladam; Man Arrested

In a shocking incident near Palladam, a 42-year-old woman and her 22-year-old daughter were hacked to death at their residence on Tuesday morning. Police arrested a 27-year-old man from Dindigul district in connection with the double murder, which is suspected to have stemmed from a relationship dispute.

Tiruppur: A 42-year-old woman and her 22-year-old daughter were hacked to death at their residence in Pachapalayam near Palladam in Tiruppur district on Tuesday morning, triggering shock wavesin the locality.

Palladam Police have arrested a 27-year-old man from Dindigul district in connection with the incident and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the double murder.

The deceased have been identified as Dhanalakshmi (42) and her daughter Poovarasi (22). They were living with Dhanalakshmi’s husband Palanisamy in a rented house in the Pachapalayam area.

Palanisamy and Dhanalakshmi were employed as workers in a garment company, while Poovarasi, who had completed her college education, was working at a private company in the locality, according to police.

On Tuesday morning, Palanisamy had left for work as usual, leaving Dhanalakshmi and Poovarasi at home. During this time, a man allegedly entered the house and attacked the two women with a sickle.

Both Dhanalakshmi and Poovarasi sustained severe injuries and died at the scene. Neighbours who heard their cries reportedly rushed to the house and found the two women lying in a pool of blood.

The suspect allegedly attempted to flee from the area following the attack but was intercepted and detained by local residents, who alerted the police.

A police team led by Palladam Deputy Superintendent of Police Parthiban arrived at the scene and initiated an investigation. The bodies were recovered and sent to the Palladam Government Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Tiruppur District Superintendent of Police Srishti Singh also visited the scene and reviewed the investigation with the police personnel.

During the preliminary inquiry, police identified the detained man as Akshay (27), a native of Dindigul district. According to the preliminary investigation, Poovarasi and Akshay had reportedly been acquainted through Instagram for more than four years, and her mother had allegedly opposed their relationship.

Police said Akshay had gone to Poovarasi’s residence on the morning of August 11, where an argument reportedly broke out. He allegedly attacked Poovarasi and Dhanalakshmi with a sickle, resulting in their deaths.

A case was registered and Akshay was arrested and remanded in judicial custody. Further investigation is under way.
