Siddhapudur Girls School Students Win Bronze Medal in District Fencing Competition

Students Yazhini, Srinidhi, and Arulselvi from Siddhapudur Municipal Girls High School won bronze medal in the U-14 EPEE Team Event at the district-level fencing competition held at Nehru Indoor Stadium, Coimbatore, bringing pride to their school through their outstanding performance.


Coimbatore: Students from Siddhapudur Municipal Girls High School have brought pride to their institution by winning a bronze medal in the district-level fencing competition. The competition was held on August 19, 2026, at Coimbatore Corporation's Nehru Indoor Stadium, where students Yazhini, Srinidhi, and Arulselvi, all studying in Class 8, participated in the U-14 EPEE Team Event and secured the bronze medal through their exceptional performance.

The district-level fencing competition witnessed participation from over 70 students representing more than 23 schools across Coimbatore district. Competing in the three major weapon categories of fencing—EPEE, Foil, and Sabre—the students showcased their skills with enthusiasm and competitive spirit. For the three students from Siddhapudur Municipal Girls High School, this was their first-ever fencing competition, making their bronze medal achievement even more remarkable.

The competition demonstrated the growing interest in fencing among school students in Coimbatore district. The students who participated displayed dedication and skill in a sport that requires precision, quick reflexes, and strategic thinking. Yazhini, Srinidhi, and Arulselvi's performance in the U-14 EPEE Team Event stood out among their peers, earning them recognition and the bronze medal.

According to existing regulations of the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDAT) and other government sports organizations, students who consistently excel at district, state, national, and international levels may receive various training and sports development opportunities. Additionally, qualified outstanding sports persons may be eligible for employment opportunities in government departments and public sector undertakings under sports quota, as per prevailing Tamil Nadu government norms.

Excellence in sports alongside academics creates additional career opportunities for students. The achievement of these young fencers serves as an inspiration for otherstudents to pursue sports seriously. School Headmistress Malathi, Physical Education Teacher M. Sathiyaselvam, and Fencing Coach Renshi B. Amirtharaj congratulated the medal-winning students and encouraged them to continue their excellent performance in future competitions.

The school administration expressed confidence that Yazhini, Srinidhi, and Arulselvi would continue to win more medals in upcoming competitions, bringing further glory to their school and Coimbatore district. Their success in their debut competition demonstrates the potential of young athletes when provided with proper training and encouragement.
