Coimbatore: A car was heavily damaged in a fire after reportedly crashing into an electric pole on the road connecting Avinashilingam College and GCT College in Coimbatore on Monday afternoon. The woman driving the vehicle escaped without injuries.

The driver, identified as Shantha (50), a resident of Venkatapuram, was travelling towards GCT College from the Avinashilingam College side when the incident occurred near Venkatapuram. The car reportedly lost control and collided with a roadside electric pole.

Following the impact, smoke was noticed coming from the front of the vehicle, after which the car caught fire. Shantha reportedly managed to get out of the vehicle in time and escaped unhurt.

Fire and Rescue Services personnel rushed to the spot after receiving information and brought the blaze under control. However, the vehicle was heavily damaged in the fire.

The incident occurred during the afternoon when traffic and pedestrian movement on the stretch was reportedly limited, helping prevent a potentially serious mishap.
