Coimbatore Traffic Police conducted vehicle checks at Kavundampalayam on Mettupalayam Road using a state-of-the-art detection device to identify overspeeding motorists and two-wheeler riders without helmets. The device can also measure the decibel levels of air horns, with fines issued to motorists found violating traffic rules.

Coimbatore: As part of measures to reduce road accidents within the city, Coimbatore Traffic Police conducted vehicle checks at Kavundampalayam on Mettupalayam Road using a modern speed detection device.

The device was used to identify vehicles travelling above the 40 kmph city speed limit. It also captured the vehicles’ registration numbers and photographs, following which fines were issued to motorists found overspeeding.

Notably, the device was also used to identify two-wheeler riders travelling without helmets, with fines imposed on the violators.

According to traffic police, the device uses cameras and sensors to measure vehicle speeds and identify helmet violations. It can capture and store images of vehicles and registration plates, allowing officials to verify violations and send messages to vehicle owners with details such as the date and time.

Police said the device can also measure the decibel levels of air horns fitted to vehicles.

The vehicle checks were carried out by Traffic Police Sub-Inspectors Saravanan, Durai and Karuthapandi, along with other personnel. The traffic police have also been taking measures such as seizing air horns and dazzling LED lights as part of efforts to improve road safety.
