The Southern Railway has extended the operation of special trains between Podanur Junction and Chennai Central via Tiruppur, Erode, Salem, Morappur, Jolarpettai, Katpadi, Arakkonam and Perambur. The trains will operate on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from September 4 to September 27, with 12 services in each direction,
Coimbatore: The Southern Railway has extended the service period of special trains operating between Podanur Junction and Chennai Central to meet the increasing travel demand from passengers. The special trains will operate on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from September 4 to September 27, 2026, with a total of 12 services in each direction.
Train No. 06028 Podanur–Chennai Central Special will depart from Podanur Junction at 7.40 am and reach Chennai Central at 4.45 pm on the same day. In the return direction, Train No. 06027 Chennai Central–Podanur Special will depart from Chennai Central at 5.45 pm and reach Podanur Junction at 3.00 am the following day.
The trains will operate via Tiruppur, Erode, Salem, Morappur, Jolarpettai, Katpadi, Arakkonam and Perambur. The service composition will include AC Chair Car, Second Class Chair Car, General Second Class and Luggage-cum-Brake Van coaches.
Timings
The Podanur–Chennai special will depart Podanur at 7.40 am, reaching Tiruppur at 8.28 am, Erode at 9.20 am, Salem at 10.17 am, Morappur at 11.20 am, Jolarpettai at 12.45 pm, Katpadi at 1.55 pm, Arakkonam at 3.03 pm, Perambur at 4.00 pm and Chennai Central at 4.45 pm.
The return service will depart Chennai Central at 5.45 pm, with scheduled stops at Perambur, Arakkonam, Katpadi, Jolarpettai, Morappur, Salem, Erode and Tiruppur before reaching Podanur Junction at 3.00 am.
The extension was announced by the Salem Division of Southern Railway on August 30, 2026.
