World Coconut Day: Coimbatore to Host Special Event; Farmers Invited

World Coconut Day will be observed tomorrow (September 2), with a special event organised at the Anna Kalaivaanar Arangam in Coimbatore to highlight state-of-the-art farming practices, value-added coconut products and ways to address climate-related challenges.

Coimbatore: World Coconut Day will be observed tomorrow (September 2), with a special programme organised in Coimbatore, bringing together agricultural experts and farmers to focus on the future of coconut cultivation amid changing climatic conditions.

The World Coconut Day 2026 programme will be held at the Anna Kalaivaanar Arangam in Coimbatore from 10 a.m. It is being jointly organised by the Coconut Development Board, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India, Regional Office, Coimbatore, and the College of Horticulture and Research Institute under Tamil Nadu Agricultural University.

The programme will focus on strengthening coconut cultivation through state-of-the-art farming practices, addressing climate-related challenges, promoting the diverse uses and value of coconut, and exploring opportunities to improve farmers’ livelihoods and the sustainability of the coconut sector, while highlighting the role of the Coconut Development Board in supporting its development.

Coimbatore District Collector Pavan Kumar G. Giriyappanavar, IAS, is scheduled to participate as the chief guest, while Ila. Aravazhi, Director of the Coconut Development Board, will deliver the special address.

Officials from the agriculture and horticulture departments, professors and experts associated with the coconut sector are also expected to participate and share their views during the programme.

As part of the programme, those who have made notable contributions to the coconut sector will be recognised. The event will also include lunch and other activities related to coconut cultivation and its various applications.
