Vishok (23) a resident of Thudiyalur was arrested and remanded in judicial custody for allegedly threatening a youth with a knife and robbing him of ₹2,200 and his motorcycle on Thudiyalur Railway Station Road in Coimbatore.
The complainant, Naveenkumar (24), a resident of Chinnammal Layout on Karamadai Road in Mettupalayam, was travelling through Thudiyalur with a friend at around 11.30 p.m. on Saturday. The two were riding separate motorcycles.
Police said that when they reached Thudiyalur Railway Station Road, Naveenkumar was intercepted by a man who demanded money from him. When Naveenkumar told him that he did not have any money, the man allegedly threatened him with a concealed knife.
Fearing for his safety, Naveenkumar handed over ₹2,200 that he had in his pocket, police said.
His friend, who was following him on another motorcycle, arrived at the spot and questioned the man. At this point, the accused allegedly pushed Naveenkumar to the ground, snatched his motorcycle and fled from the scene.
Naveenkumar and his friend attempted to chase him but were unable to apprehend him.
Based on Naveenkumar’s complaint, the Thudiyalur police registered a case and launched an investigation. The accused was subsequently identified as Vishok (23), a resident of Muthusamy Gounder Street in Thudiyalur.
Police arrested Vishok and produced him before a court, following which he was remanded in judicial custody.
