Australian football academy opens training centre in Coimbatore

Australia-based Football Star Academy (FSA) has chosen Coimbatore to launch its first-ever training centre and grassroots programme in India.

FSA has partnered with RaK's Pallikoodam to provide the training programme that aims at identifying and training the finest young sporting talents, FSA Australia Coach and Business Development Manager, David Thomson told reporters in Coimbatore today.

The academy will help its partner set up a Centre of Excellence and a multi-sport facility where the young and aspiring kids can display their talents, Thomson said.

Football Star Academy trains more than 5000 students every week around the world in 56 centres. Stating that already 100 talents in the age group of five to 16 years have registered to join the Academy, which will start functioning on April 14, Karthik Ranganathan, the FSA Indian National Director, said that about 20 girls were among the aspirants to participate in the training.

Karthik added that there will be qualified coaches, physiotherapists, and renowned football players during the training programme. It will be three years before they will start seeing results.

FSA will open its Chennai centre in August, and one in Bengaluru in another six months.
