Gold ornaments seized, released

A flying squad on Friday intercepted a four-wheeler near Karpagam University on the bypass road in Kinathukadavu Assembly segment and seized 1.62 kg gold ornaments due to lack of documents. Inquiries revealed that the jewellery was being taken from Nellore district in Andhra Pradesh to Thrissur in Kerala. It was returned to them after they produced supportive documents.

On Thursday, a flying squad in Pollachi Assembly constituency seized Rs. 1.4 lakh from a man at Ambarampalayam, near Pollachi. The man was carrying the money in a car from Kerala to Pollachi. The cash was handed over to Pollachi Sub-Collector and returned to its owner after he produced documents for the transaction.

So far, the election squads in the 10 Assembly segments in Coimbatore district have seized Rs. 45.04 lakh in total from various persons who carried unaccounted money to the tune of more than Rs. 50,000.

Money was returned to persons carrying it after they produced documents supporting the transaction.

Till Thursday, the city and district police have registered 251 cases against political parties and organisations for alleged model code of conduct violations.

The Bazaar Police, on Thursday, registered a case against members of Manithneya Jananayaka Katchi for opening their election office at a distance of less than 100 metres from the polling booth.

In The Nilgiris district, a flying squad in Udhagamandalam Assembly constituency seized Rs. 97,320 from a man at Thoothurmattam in Udhagamandalam.
