AIYF and AISF join the protest spree on Siruvani issue

The political outfits in Tamil Nadu are on a spree of protests against the Cauvery and Siruvani issue. After the announcement by the Kerala Government to commence it’s preliminary construction work at Attapadi, there is a tense situation in Coimbatore and the whole of Kongu belt condemning the act and urging the Central Government to rescind the approvals issued.

Today, activists of the All India Youth Federation (AIYF) and All India Students Federation (AISF) demonstrated a rally from the district collectorate to the railway station junction.

The protestors urged that the Kerala Government is planning to store a water capacity of 4.5 TMC water at the proposed dam and it would adversely affect the farmers and people of Coimbatore, Tirupur and adjoining areas. They condemned the Central government for issuance of permission and to rescind the sanctions with immediate effect. They apprised that a massive protest before the Parliament at New Delhi would be staged, if they issue remains unaddressed.

The police arrested the protestors and cleared off the unrest around the railway station area.
