Narendra Modi's birthday celebrations aim for four records

The 66th birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to be celebrated in Navsari district on September 17 will be a momentous event as three Guinness world records and one national record will be targeted by organizers.

The celebrations, to be organized by the Gujarat government, will see the distribution of 17,000 kits among 11,223 disabled people. The organizers aim to break a world record for maximum number of people in wheelchairs who form an image or a logo.The previous record was made in the US by 346 wheelchair-bound persons in 2010. On Modi's birthday, the new record will involve 1,000 people on wheelchairs, an official of the organizing committee said on Thursday.

A new record will also be aimed at by providing hearing aids to 1,000 deaf people. The previous record was made in Australia. Furthermore, 1,500 oil lamps will be lit simul taneously at a single location to establish another record. The event will be monitored by officials from Guinness World Records.

"This programme is inspired by central government's 'Accessible India' campaign under which people with disability are given hearing aids, wheelchairs and tricycles, calipers and prosthetics and multi-sensory integrated educational development kits among other items," another official said.

Navsari district collector Ravi Arora said, "Aim is to serve the disabled people.The records will be created when disabled kids hold 1,500 oil lamps in their hands at a single location."
