AITUC Women construction workers demand maternity benefits

The AITUC construction workers union has petitioned the district collector urging the Chief Minister Dr. J. Jayalalitha to extend maternity leave benefits to their association women workers also, which is presently denied to them. 



The women construction workers requested in their petition that presently the maternity benefits of Rs. 6000/- allotted to them is not been given in full and only Rs. 3000/- reaches their hand. Due to lack of income during the pre and post maternity periods, the women with their newborn have been facing immense distress and lack of proper care. They also cited incidents were pregnant women have delivered at the construction sites due to lack of maternity leave. Hence, the AITUC women workers have requested the CM to extend their maternity leave period to nine months at par with the other government employees, who have been granted with nine months of maternity leave along with salaries and special allowances They expressed their whole-hearted gratitude to the Chief Minister for her humanitarian act and selfless affection on women.
