Navy calls off hunt for Maharashtra 'mystery men'

Mumbai/Uran: Security has been beefed up at Bombay High and other oil rigs operating in the sea after six armed masked men with backpacks were reportedly spotted by two school students in Uran on Thursday morning.

Meanwhile, the Navy has toned down the alert after the final aerial combing operation did not yield any results. The search operation conducted by National Security Guard (NSG), MARCOS (marine commandos) and Force One commandos were called off at noon on Friday.

However, Navi Mumbai police, along with locals, continued its search operation in areas around the site where the men were allegedly spotted. On Friday morning, intelligence officials visited Uran and held a meeting with police commissioner Hemant Nagrale.
