Race Course Metro station to be renamed Lok Kalyan Marg station

New Delhi: The Race Course Metro station, located few metres away from the Prime Minister's official residence, will soon be known as Lok Kalyan Marg station, in line with the recent renaming of the iconic British-era road in posh Lutyens' Delhi.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) today initiated the process in this regard as per the Centre's directive. The first visible change will be in the form of new station name boards, the DMRC said.

The whole process will take some time as the new name will have to be feeded into the metro's internal software that controls the digital boards and the announcement system in stations and trains.

"The DMRC has initiated the process of changing the name of the Race Course Metro station to Lok Kalyan Marg Metro station as per the directive of the government.

"Initially, the station name boards will be changed immediately followed by gradual changes in the automatic announcement system, maps etc as these will involve software updates," DMRC chief spokesman Anuj Dayal said.

The Race Course Road was named after the Delhi Race Course, part of the Delhi Race Club, which was established in 1940.

The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) at a high-level meeting presided by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal recently changed the name of the iconic road in Lutyens Zone.
